Homework

Background for understanding: ( The idea of "The cult of True womanhood,"or " the cult of domesticity," sought to assert that womanly virtue resided in piety, purity, submissiveness, and domesticity- The attributes of True Womanhood, by which a woman judged herself and was judged by her husband, her neighbors, and her society could be divided into four cardinal virtues - piety, purity, submissiveness, and domesticity...without them.... all was ashes. With them she was promised happiness and power.).
True Women were to hold the four cardinals virtues:
1.Piety - believed to be more religious and spiritual than men
2.Purity - pure in heart, mind, and body
3.Submission - held in "perpetual childhood" where men dictated all actions and decisions
4.Domesticity - a division between work and home, encouraged by the Industrial Revolution; men went out in the world to earn a living, home became the woman's domain where a wife created a "haven in a heartless world" for her husband and children.[1]

Copy the above and paste it on your Blog page. Then list all the female characters and the roles they play and state if a character is conventional or Unconventional ans WHY? Cite examples from the text. Additionally, use the above Four Cardinals and also apply it to each character stating why you think they possess these virtues. Please get images to represent each female character and cite your sources.

- Desdemona would be unconventional because she is the type of character that would actually stand up for herself and for other women. In Act II, Scene I, Desdemona says "these are old fond paradoxes to make fools laugh i' th' alehouse. What miserable praise hast thou for her that's foul and foolish?" She holds the Cardinal Virtues of purity and domesticity because Desdemona stays alone doing things while Othello is out doing his job and that she shows her love towards Othello.

- Emillia hold the Cardinal Virutue of submission because she is kind of controlled by men and follows orders in which it makes her Conventional. In Act II, Scene I, Emillia just stays quiet around men and barelly doesn't say anything. She lets Desdemona do all the talking.

- Bianca holds the Cardinal Virtue of Purity because she likes to please Cassio since she is in love with him. That would make Bianca a conventional woman since she likes to show her love towards Cassio and follow men's orders. In Act IV, Scene I, Bianca shows up like if cassio was her husband already but still like to please Cassio by making him supper.
